Day 71- Quick Update before Getting to Work

Total Mileage: 8,950

Made it safely to Austin, TX, where I'll be for the next few days.  I-35 between San Antonio and Austin wasn't exactly fun traffic-wise, so I'm relieved to have that part of the journey behind me.  Oof, San Antonio-- what was I thinking?  Oh, now I remember: "Hey, I've got a little time to kill.  Maybe I'll drive down to San Antonio and see the Alamo!  That'll be a fun little detour!"  Not my best idea ever, but live and learn.  If San Antonio traffic had existed back in the day, they never would've lost the Alamo; Santa Anna's troops would've taken one look at that mess and headed back home.

Sure, it may have been a messy detour, but I'm glad to be safely in Austin catching up with Stephen Currie, an old friend from Memphis.  Of course, the last time Stephen saw me, I probably hadn't even reached 5' tall yet, so there's a lot to catch up on.  Since the last time we saw each other, I went off to college and started in divinity school, and Stephen met his wife Penny and had two little girls.  Stephen's girls, Anna (age 4) and Ella (age 2) have been walking by the room where I'm working.  They've been peering in inquisitively as I type, so I'm making silly faces as I go-- great low-effort child entertainment technique.

Okay, time to get back to work.  I need to fine-tune the denomination piece some more (general thesis: there's no way around messy denominational politics, even in the so-called nondenominational churches).  I also need to read through some church websites in preparation for Saturday and Sunday, and if there's time, I might even try to email a few of the Houston churches.  Also, I might be dropping Antioch from the docket in favor of something that won't have me driving all the way to Waco this weekend.  Sure, that'd be a great way to add some more mileage, but since I've already hit my 8,000 goal, I'm trying to be more merciful to my car now.

Peace and Blessings,
Tom
