Well hello there, Tex-Mex. |

In Dallas. It's over 100 degrees here, and I hear it has been every day this month. I'm still editing the Lakewood/Lord of the Streets/Ecclesia posts, and this will definitely be one of those multiple-chapter affairs. I'm hoping to have it all finally knocked out tonight, but I think I'm going to be doing a lot of cutting from the Joel Osteen commentary in the wee hours of the morning before I post. Pastors need to be familiar with his message and take it seriously, but a lot of ink has been spilled over Joel already, and I'm not sure that all of my comments come from a place of pastoral love, so I'm cutting down on my commentary to make sure I'm not just cutting down Joel.
I took a little break from all of that today to have lunch with my friends Kyle and Julia, both of whom are interning in the area, and I also got to have a great conversation with Lee Johnson, Julia's father and the pastor of Bear Valley Community Church. The afternoon was filled with discussions about missions and about the church and about ministry and, yes, about Joel Osteen too. (Can I help it if the guy's been on my mind a bit lately? When you've been writing about someone's theology for four days straight, they sort of slip into your everyday conversations.) I'm also thinking that I might nix Prestonwood Baptist tomorrow just because I've attended eight worship services since arriving in Texas, and since I will have only just finished the Houston posts, I might be stretching myself kind of thin. Besides, I think T.D. Jakes will probably give me a lot of food for thought on Sunday, so I sort of feel like I should devote my full attention to Potter's House. Reba Collins of The Church Guide also warned me that I would be spending pretty much my whole day at Potter's House, so it sounds like I'm going to need to pace myself for this one. Plus, maybe I'll want to take a break on Saturday evening and devote my attention to that piece on generational rivalry in the Church that I started a week ago-- that's sort of a sabbath, right?
Well, back to work. Actually, skype time with Erin and then back to work.
Skype good. Editing far less fun.
Peace and Blessings,
Tom
