You know, I've never actually watched Talladega Nights from beginning to end, but I've always gotten a kick out of this clip. I've seen it used in Bible Studies to talk about how we sometimes try to custom-tailor the God we worship or use prayer for the wrong reasons, but aside from profound interpretations, the clip is also just really funny:
Sadly, the clip is a lot less funny now that I know it's real:
I'm going to be writing most of the day, but I had to go ahead and share this. I see this as kind of a tragic reminder that prayer is first and foremost personal, even when in a group setting. We all get caught up trying to please a crowd sometimes --or, in this case, forcing God into our endorsement deals--, but a prayer isn't something to be taken lightly. I am grateful for Goodyear tires too, but maybe a word could've been said about the safety of the drivers? This just seems like a good cautionary tale for us. Thanks to Jeremy Sher for sending me the link.
Peace and Blessings,
Tom
