Yep, it took me a while to sift through this experience, and I'll admit that I indulged myself in a few tangents in this write-up. At Saddleback, I had to address confusing issues around patriotism, denominational loyalties, pastoral responsibility, and lavish facilities. There was a lot of cool stuff going on at Saddleback, but there were also quite a few things that I found dubious. At the very least, I'm glad I got to worship in a relaxing environment that almost made me feel like this research trip was a bit of a vacation.

Part 2: Worship and Patriotism
Part 3: Sermon (Romans 7) and a Note on Pills, Prayer, and the Pastorate
Part 4: Worship in the Cafe and Closing Thoughts
Yep, interesting experience. Some of it bad. Some of it good.
All of it under a beautiful Southern California sun.
