Song of the Day: "From the Stars" (White Lies)
Okay, since the Petrified Forest and the faulty Days Inn internet connection had me pretty down yesterday, I'm glad I stumbled onto this little miracle of tourism gold. Clines Corners (no apostrophe) may very well be a collection of useless junk to rival even the mythical Boomland. Well, no one really tops Boomland, but still, the place was fairly epic and just the pick-me-up I needed. Of course, after leaving Clines Corners, I made it all the way to the Texas state line, and upon discovering that pretty much every hotel in West Texas is booked solid, I made it almost all the way to Abilene-- over 600 miles covered today, and about a third of it was unplanned. Nice to be ahead of schedule again. I guess I could've kept going to Abilene, but it was very late. Besides, I wanted to go ahead and stop for the night because . . . well, remember "the nothing" from the movie The Neverending Story? That big roaring abyss that was engulfing and destroying the entire landscape? Yeah, the storm that was on my tail kind of looked like that. Shelter became a priority.
Still tweaking the denominational politics thing, and I might also have a few other miscellaneous writings that I want to get knocked out before reaching Austin this weekend-- stuff that's been simmering on the backburner for a while. In the meantime, Clines Corners pictures . . .
I feel like these photos are self-explanatory enough not to need comments. That "Medicine Man" gave me an awesome fortune though: "What a joy to look ahead to read into the signs of your future. So much happiness is in store for you that the most brilliantly lighted stars will be put to shame by the brightness of your life. Ah, this is not all caused by sheer good luck. Nay, nay my friend, your perseverance, your clever ways of handling your domestic problems and your sincerity in dealing with others are pointing the way to their reward. Oh happiness what an elusive thing you are. But thank God you were born beneath its star."
Well, time to get some rest. Within five hours of Austin, but I don't really need to be there for a few more days, which means it's time to relax and write a bit.
Peace and Blessings,
Tom
PS-- Also, I realize that I've now reached the 8,000 mark, but I'm still not done yet, so I'm just going to keep going. Something tells me there's something symbolic in that. The 8,000 (like the ordination) is more of a milestone or maybe even an inauguration-- not an end in and of itself.
